Labyrinth Meditation

Like any pilgrimage, the labyrinth represents the inner journey we are called to make that will take us to the center of our being. In some social circles today the labyrinth continues to be used as an instrument to facilitate meditation, prayer, personal reflection, etc.

Chi Gong

The literal meaning of "qigong" is life-force ("qi") cultivation ("gong").  This term includes a wide variety of Taoist practices which aim to nourish, cultivate, balance and increase our awareness of qi (also spelled "chi") -- the energy aspect of our “bodymind”.  Some practices include physical movement; others are more exclusively internal - using breath, attention, sound and/or visualization to activate the experience of flowing energy, i.e. “qi”.

Temazcal

A temazcal is a type of sweat lodge which originated with pre-Hispanic indigenous peoples in Mesoamerica. The word temazcal comes from the Nahuatl word “temazcalli” (house of heat). Temazcal in English is also written as temezcal, temascal, or temescal. In ancient Mesoamerica it was used as part of a curative ceremony thought to purify the body after exertion such as after a battle or a ceremonial ball game. It was also used to heal the sick, to improve health, and to aid women giving birth. It continues to be used today fro spiritual and health reasons by indigenous cultures of Mexico and Central America that were part of the Mesoamerican region. It is currently being recovered by all sectors of society in this region of the world and is used as a cleansing of mind, body, and spirit.

Mindfullness Meditation

Mindfulness is a type of meditation that essentially involves focusing on your mind in the present. Research suggests that mindfulness meditation may improve mood, decrease stress, and boost immune function.

Tai Chi

The practice of Tai Chi promotes the circulation of “chi” or life energy within the body, encouraging wellness and vitality. Tai Chi benefits both genders and people of all ages. Tai Chi is an exercise that requires no strenuous action; there is no jumping, aerobics, or running. The feet are always rooted within the earth and the torso and arms, making graceful, deliberate, and sequenced movements take on the form of physical poetry.

Zen Archery

¨Kyudo is meditation. The main point of kyudo practice is to polish your heart, deeply. When someone hits the target, you can sometimes see happiness. In kyudo, you ‘cut’ this happiness; that's merely the enjoyment of ego. Hitting the target or having beautiful form is not the true measure of your practice. In the fight-training forms of kendo, karate, judo victory comes from ‘cutting’ someone else. Kyudo is completely different. You ‘cut’ yourself, your own ego. In this way, we can begin to create a peaceful world and further create a circle of peace the whole world over. In Kyudo, that is the definition of victory."
